I asked this question already but only got 2 answers because I posted at like 2am or some time like that... looking for more and better answers.
I used to have a shaved head and grew my hair out to get a shag cut... I'm just curious how hard it is for a stylist to cut a shag for men without it looking weird. I like the messy look, but I can imagine it can look extremely bad if the stylist doesn't know how to do it right. Also, how long should my hair be. I know for women you can get a long shag, so I'm sure there's really no maximum hair length needed for a shag, but what about minimum length?
Difficulty level will determine whether or not it is worth it to get the 1st cut, which following cuts will model after, at a high priced salon or a cheapo place.How hard is it for a hair stylist to cut a shag for men?
Most any hair stylist has gone to school to learn all types of hair styles, so If I were you I wouldn't be worried.

I don't know how to get my hair cut. I'm a 28 year old man, and I'm asking - what do I ask for?
I'd prefer a little longer cut, so I don't look like a Republican. But, when it grows out, my hair gets curly - not a fan. I'd like to keep it in the mid-range. But, when I go in to do this, every time, no matter who I go to, they cut it too short, and I look like I should be a gelled up frat boy. But I'm not. I think as long as you're confident then you can pull ANYTHING off! Guys are meant to have hair on their legs, I wouldnt trim it as it will grow back more. And if you wax it all off it will just look even weirder so just leave it and be grateful you've got legs!!!

Well, you could go to Wal Mart or Target and get a hair cutting kit for, like, twenty dollars. They usually come with a razor and some trimmers. You can use this to cut hair yourself. Hey, I usually go to the old barber shop and get a normal mans haircut but I kind of wanted to try and do it myself, and I'm pretty tight on cash around here. My girlfriend cuts her own hair, and has a buzzer, and scissors. I like the idea of a pocket watch like other people have said, but if that's not for you than you can get very nice locket keyrings that are designed for men. There are the traditional locket style ones designed for pictures or mini time capsule style ones where you unscrew a cap and could put the hair in.

I thought that i should answer as my borther had exactly the same problem.
He wanted something like a locket but felt that a locket aorund his neck was too girly for him so this is the EXACT one he got, he added a longer chain so that it went down the inside of his shirt and he really liked it.
That way it meant he could also get his daughters name enscribed onto it.

Alright, so I've had fairly long hair for the past 3 years. Actually it's not that long anymore, but it is a bit long, and I'm looking at just getting it all cut off. I'm tired of it, always in my face, it's just annoying. Except I don't know what to ask for in terms of a simple short hair cut. I want something I can sorta gel like this.

all i know is that in islam we are not suppose to distract ourselves with mere looks (even though we have to look clean and well-dressed........seems almost contradictory dont u think:P)
most of the guys nowadays wana put gel in their hair and spend i dont know 5-10mins doing their hair yet dont spend the same amount of time praying
plus during the time of the prophet , many of those who worshiped ';evil'; had fanatic haircuts....and so by copying their style u wud be promoting their beliefs

What is a good hair cut/style for a man with a big head and thinning hair/receding hairline?
I'm asking you guys because every time my hubby goes to get a haircut they give him a really stupid looking one. It always makes his head look bigger and they'll cut it short but give him this longer fringe in the front, I don't know if they're trying to hide the receding hairline (it's still in the early stages, it's not bad by any means) and to me it just looks plain ridiculous.
So there it is. He has straight, dark hair. Thinner hair, but not too thin. Early stages of receding hairline. LARGE head. He wears a mustache and a goatee/beard thingy. He has a weaker type chin, so the goatee/beard thingy balances out the rest of his face.

I've got a huge forehead and have probably made it even worse by wearing my hair spikey / messy for the last 5 years or so. Well, it wasn't that bad when I started but my hair line has receded since. Regardless, I'm looking for a new cut now and really don't know what to do. It's kind of scary because I've been doing this for so long. Also, when my hair starts to grow out it gets kind of wavy and curly, so that complicates matters a bit as well. I'll throw in some pictures of my ugly mug so that you can see what I'm talking about.

I like the prices at Super Cuts and have gotten good hair cuts. But they charge for which scissors they use, hair spray, blow drying, mousse, and gel. It gets to be ridiculous.

I used to have a shaved head and grew my hair out to get a shag cut... I'm just curious how hard it is for a stylist to cut a shag for men without it looking weird. I like the messy look, but I can imagine it can look extremely bad if the stylist doesn't know how to do it right. Also, how long should my hair be. I know for women you can get a long shag, so I'm sure there's really no maximum hair length needed for a shag, but what about minimum length?

I have been cutting my own hair for a couple of years but have never been trained. As a result I often get inconsistent results. I use a number one clip on the side and a four on top and was wondering what method to employ to be more consistent in receiving a ';fade'; where the hair fades from a number one on the side to a number four on top.For men what is the best way to cut your own hair and get a ';fade'; look?

To do this you hold the comb at an angle and run the clippers over it. You will need a good mirror, actually a few of them so you can see what you are doing. Plus, remember, everything will look backwards in the mirror. Make sure you have the comb at the right angle and blending between the lengths before you run the clippers across them.

It depends what type of hairdresser you use. If you get a private hairdresser that comes to your house it could cost 拢10 but if you go to a Salon it could cost between 拢20-拢100 it just depends on what you want done and where you go.

My boyfriend grew his hair out (not really long, but about 3-3.5';) and it's starting to look a little ragged at the ends. He wants me to trim his hair instead of having to pay for it (which I'm fine with) but I've never cut men's hair before. I've cut long hair straight across, but with his hair it is all at different layers, so to speak...like men's hair often is. I hate going for haircuts because I can never tell if the hairdresser wishes to talk to me and I never know how much to tip her. Also, I never feel comfortable enough around certain hairdressers to ask them to shape up my hair exactly the way I wanted it. If there were some hair salon that knew how to treat us scared men when we come in, I'd be all over it!
I use the longest clipper attachment on my guys naturally curly hair. Make sure he is not sweating cuz it gunks up the clippers. ALso do it away from the kitchen cuz it flies all over the place even with no breeze LOL. Part it like you want it (or he wants it) and then just cut carefully. Cut too little at first, easier to cut more than wish you could. Also be free enough to trim again after a shower/hairwash cuz it may lie differently then. The other very very important thing is to use hair scissors only! Invest in some if you don't have them. A kit is fairly inexpensive - about $20. If you use clippers, keep them oiled. Otherwise they pull and don't do a good job. Never use your hair scissors for ANYTHING else. Good luck. I agree it is expensive to pay for ';just a trim.';

It is not haram to cut your hair, your hair is covered by hijab anyway, only husband and close family members will see it anyway. It IS haram to pluck eyebrows. Period. You cannot argue the haram out of an act that has been forbidden.

What kind of hair cut is best to ';grow out'; into long hair for Men?
I'm a man currently growing my hair out from my last cut, which was with a number 4 guard on the sides and back, and the front/top was trimmed to fit with scissors. It's been almost 4 months since my last cut. I eventually want to end up with hair similar to Dave Grohl's (Foo Fighters) style. Other than obviously just letting it grow, is there a cut that will help it grow into that style? Or just let it grow then get it cut into shape?

because men have been cutting their hair short for centuries so its become the norm. Where as womens hair is associated with beauty through out history, thus long hair = beautiful hair (according to norms and historical cultural practices)

If you want to shave farther down and too the backside be very careful around your smegma. It hurts like a son of a ***** if you cut it. I use an intuition women's razor. It has a built in lotion stick around the 3 blade razor like a roll on deodorant. That way you don't have to mess with a shave gel. Also remember to apply some lotion after you pat yourself dry. I've used an after shave cooling lotion like Gillette sensitive skin. It stings a little but the results are SMOOTH!!

There was something like this in our area years ago except it was lingerie instead of bikinis. The place was called Victor's Secret. It didn't last long, and I don't know why. It sounds like a good idea with one exception - little pieces of cut hair all over you. It sounds very itchy.
My suggestion - charge more for the haircuts and pay the girls more. I wouldn't trust the guys to simply tip enough to make wearing bikinis or lingerie worth it. Ask your male clients if they would be willing to pay $5, $10 more (or whatever amount) for such a haircut.

Get it braided :-) or go to a professional and let them remove some of the bulk by cutting it (thinning out the hair) so that you can rock more styles without the hassle. Or use lots of gel applied in sections and work with it.

How does one cut steps in hair for men?
By cutting steps in your hair do you mean layering it? If you're thinking of layering hair for a man it has to be a bit longer then your average men's haircut. If it's long enough then start cutting it in sections, of course starting the shortest layers on top and working your way down to the longer layers. Since guys typically don't have much hair you probably don't want to go with too many layers, I would say 3 at the most. If the man's hair is short you can attempt layers but it probably won't look the way you want it so you might want to wait a while until the hair gets to an ideal length. I hope this helped you out a bit!

Cut it shorter and do the faux hawk. Like have a stylist cut the majority of your head an average length, then gradually longer just towards the front and middle. Gel straight forward, and when you get close to hairline push the hair in towards the middle and use your fingers to bring it up where it comes together. A LOT more subtle than what you have now.
Orrrr have a stylist use a texture razor and take out a lot of the bulk and do a really clean comb over. It's coming back. Shaggy and textured, of course, but definitely good looking!

Like I would love to be an accountant (thats what I am going to school to become) with a fro like my avatar but of course no one would hire me...! But if you are adamant about your hair. Try interviewing and see how you do. You might be surprised.

I don't entirely believe you won't find a job with a well coiffed fro. But you'll probably have to do some shaving and trimming your tresses, and swallowing your pride. Hard, but that's the reality.
If you 're not prepared to do that, then prepare to work for yourself. Start thinking like an entrepreneur. Then you can make your own rules and maybe even change the paradigm. There's a bold concept. And create some more jobs for other black people.

i used to have shoulder-length hair and had to cut it off before i went on professional job interviews because i knew i wouldn't be considered with long hair (i'm white). It's the same for all races.

I don't entirely believe you won't find a job with a well coiffed fro. But you'll probably have to do some shaving and trimming your tresses, and swallowing your pride. Hard, but that's the reality.
If you 're not prepared to do that, then prepare to work for yourself. Start thinking like an entrepreneur. Then you can make your own rules and maybe even change the paradigm. There's a bold concept. And create some more jobs for other black people.
I'm bi-racial grew in the mid-west and grew my hair out a few times. I think it is more an ';adventurous minority'; versus the actual look.
The truth is, if there is something you want: You don't have to like the game, but you have to play it....
It's also the truth that your hair is only your hair. With or without it you are still the same individual.

when you're done with school, show them it's not whats on the head that counts, but it's whats in the head...
Same reason they don't embrace natural sistahs! My supervisor told me my fro wasn't conservative enough! I say: ';so if i perm and weave it would it be better?'; That fool had the nerve to say yes! I quite the job because i refused to work under those conditions!

there are plenty of 'professions' where you do not have to meet the standards of 'status quo' elitists.

It's not only black men, it's everyone. Short hair just looks more clean and well groomed. Same as with grizzly beards over a cut goatee. You may have to shave, but hey, if you put a good enough impression out there, who cares what your hair looks like?
i used to have shoulder-length hair and had to cut it off before i went on professional job interviews because i knew i wouldn't be considered with long hair (i'm white). It's the same for all races.

awww that stinks.. and its not about the afro.. if someone of a different race grew his hair out. it is probably unlikely that he be hired cuz they probably want someone if they are male to be clean cut..

For the same reason society prefers white men, asian men, etc. with low-cut hair for professional jobs.
It's not just black guys, it's white people and asians too, corporate companies all want guys to look ';clean cut';.
I think so. I tend to think of guy with short hair more professional regardless of the race
