During Jesus' lifetime, was it considered sinful for a man to shave, or to cut his hair?

Romans did shave and cut hair, jews did not,

Apostle Paul said ,... we have no custom such as these .

I know people quote various verses about

hair on men and women, but they need to read

the rest of the chapter..

my husband has long hair, hey Jesus did to,

imagine that !!!During Jesus' lifetime, was it considered sinful for a man to shave, or to cut his hair?
For some reason I'm not sure of, they did keep beards.

However, NOT long hair. It was a shame to a man to have long hair, but the hair was the womans glory, etc.

It was ';Nazarites'; (not to be confused with Nazarenes) who could not cut their hair. Samson was further ordered to keep his long hair in 7 braids as a special vow to God.

1 Corinthians 11 KJV

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

Numbers 6 KJV

2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD:

5All the days of the vow of his separation there shall no razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled, in the which he separateth himself unto the LORD, he shall be holy, and shall let the locks of the hair of his head grow.

Nazarites also could not drink wine, wine vinegar, eat moist or dried grapes....(verses 3, 4).

Jesus was from a city called Nazareth, hence a Nazarene.

Mark 16:6 KJV

6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.

John the Baptist was under a vow as a Nazarite and could not drink. But Jesus did drink wine.

Matthew 11 KJV

18For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.

19The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.
